When He's Not Leadin' Mass, He's Out Kickin' Ass

Hey look at THIS Battle Pope I drew.  What a difference two weeks makes, am I right?

So, the Pope I did in the previous post was trash  Now, I know you're thinkin' "Didn't cory say he wasn't gonna be a damp toilet paper on the blog?" But, consider this: if it's the truth, AM I being a damp toilet paper?  Am I?  Because I'm not saying it was trash like I'm a sad sack little baby needs a new diaper.  I am looking at my work objectively and saying, "Y'know what? That Pope I did was trash, and not even a trash that could be another man's treasure, but trash that is every man's trash, no exceptions."

And fair enough, the above drawing isn't without its flaws, but at least it's not just flat and dull. There's a lot I want to change about my work, but at the very least I want to be less boring.

Relieved that the other Pope won't be at the top of the blog anymore.  Woof.

Ok, that's enough of me for today.  See you next time.

Dammit, Jesus

Hey look at this Battle Pope I drew. I never could get him quite right. Oh well!

According to internet, my first published work "Battle Pope: Shorts" #2 released August 8, 2001.  And here we are 20 years later, acknowledging that my first published work "Battle Pope: Shorts" #2 released August 8, 2001.

What a 20 years it's been.

I've had my ups and downs, whoopsies and triumphs, disappointments and bigger disappointments, but have been fortunate enough to end up in a pretty good place.

Looking forward to doing more with the next 20 years.

Catch you next time.

America's Fighting Force (in a good way)

Hey look at this Johnny Armstrong I drew.  Remember when Kirkman and I did Superpatriot?  That's ok, sometimes I don't either.

But I forget a lot.  Sometimes I remember those issues of Shadowpact I drew and I'm like "whaaat?"  Which is crazy, because even though I've been working for almost 20 years, it's not like I've done a real whole lot.  You'd think I would remember every panel.

Not speaking negatively, of course! I’m trying not to be such a sour log on this blog.  All sweet log from here on out.

Oh!  I also did an issue of the Punisher where I got to draw the Rhino and Spider-man in his black costume.

There are only three really good Spider-man costumes and I bet you know which ones they are.  You have impeccable taste.  That's why I like you.

Speaking of how long I've been doing comics, next month (august) is the 20th anniversary of my first published work. So I dunno, I guess keep an eye on the ol' blog for some kind of thing to mark the occasion?

Ok. See you then.

Woof

(kirkman/walker/mccaig/wooton)

Hey look at this ScienceDog from Skybound X #3

That's right!  It's that day I said it would be.  Skybound X #3 is out and so is the next chapter of ScienceDog, tucked in like a little baby between a MurderFalcon and some sort of Assassin Nation.

There is also a picture of me in this issue which you can cut out and take with you on vacation.  I want to see the world!

Hope things are going your way.

Alright, gotta run.  See you next time.

MAJ Letdown, Reporting For Duty

Hey look at this Major Kusanagi I drew.

Sometimes I feel like a hobbyist who ended up doing something they enjoy professionally, but not at a professional level. Maybe I should have stuck to doodling for fun and been like, a mechanic or something.

When I was a kid I wanted to be a brain surgeon.  Just think about all the brains that have gone un-surgeoned thanks to me doing mediocre drawings instead.

Sorry to be a wet bag of bread or whatever.  I've just been thinking a lot lately about how I draw compared to how I want to draw and how difficult it is to break old habits.

I've Done It

Hey look at THIS for a second.  Just bringing a bit of balance to the content of this blog.

Please throw me into the garbage.

In other news, guess what?  I saw on the Image comic books website that they previewed a page from the ScienceDog bit in SkyboundX #3.  Here's a panel from the page.

(kirkman/walker/mccaig)

What?  You wanna see the whole page?  Nothing is stopping you.

Ok!  That's enough of me for now.  See you next time.

Header

Hey look at this Marky again.

WHOA! Another drawing of a head, and one I've already posted in black and white?????

Anyway, every now and then I get the itch to color something.  Last night was one of those now-and-thens and this was the result.

I was sure I had more to say, but guess what I don't.  Hope you're doing well.

See you here next time with probably like, a drawing of a head or something.

Believe It

Hey look at this idiot.  Did I tell you that I like Naruto?  It's a relatively recent development, but I uh, yeah, I like it.  I haven't gotten through all of it though, so please no spoilers in the comments.

Also!  I will take this opportunity to remind you that Skybound X #3 will be in stores on July 21 2021.  If you haven't read the ScienceDog story in Oblivion Song #25, I suggest you do that sometime in the next 5 weeks, but I'm not the dad of you so play it how you want.

Ok see you here again soon.

Blog of Eternal Stench

Hey look at this (spoilers, she's an invincible) Terra I drew FOR. FUN. ONLY.

So, it's come to my attention that some of you think that I am currently working on a new Invincible comic/story/something-other-than-the-wildly-popular-smash-hit-Amazon-Prime-animated-cartoon-series, and gang I don't know where you got that idea.

I literally say that the Invincible content on this blog is unrelated to my current project.

Okay well anyway now that that's cleared up, I'm gonna get back to work!

p.s. Don't miss SkyboundX this July!

2 Seasons Total Landscaping

That's right my children, the insanely popular Amazon Prime animated cartoon series "Invincible" has been picked up for not one, but TWO more seasons.

Ok, enjoy that.  TTYL

Up and At Them

Hey look at this Terra all drawn like she's gonna go hang out with fuckin Scoob and the gang or something smh.  I posted this over on Instagram ages ago, but I needed a little something to get your attention so I could clarify something somewhat important...

In the smash hit Amazon Prime animated cartoon series "Invincible," Atom Eve's logo has been the source of some confusion for fans.

Sadly this all comes down to poor implementation of a simplified version of the comic logo for animation.  The top logo in the above image (already simplified from the comics, for better or worse) was intended to be the primary logo for Eve throughout the animated series, with the bottom, further simplified logo being used when the character was small enough on screen that the slightly more complex logo would be difficult to draw.

But gang, I fucked it up.  Really biffed it.  Just a massive screw-em-up on my part.

The usage was incorrectly called out on the model sheet, resulting in the "X-ed out female gender symbol" being the prevalent Atom Eve symbol and the "correct" logo only being seen on rare occasions.

So there you have it.  Another classic cory walker blunder.

Feel free to let your kid cousin know on Reddit or whatever.  Tweet it on Twitter if that helps.

The error will be corrected in subsequent seasons, if there are subsequent seasons to correct the error.

Thanks.

Hey Guess What

Hey look at this ScienceDog cover for SkyboundX by Walker(me) and McCaig(Dave)

That's right, the adventures of ScienceDog continue in SkyboundX, a weekly anthology series coming from Skybound this July (2021). Find details here: bit.ly/SkyboundX

Ok that's this post.  Bye

Say What Dog

Hey look at this Seance Dog poster I drew for Mark's bedroom in the smash hit amazon prime animated cartoon series "Invincible" based on the comic book of the same name.

In the Invincible comic, the main character's favorite ever comic book is called "Science Dog" which is also a for real in real life comic, so in order to keep Science Dog its own separate entity, Kirkman (Robert Kirkman, co-creator of Invincible) thought that we should come up with a new favorite ever comic book character to be loved by our main character in the animated adaptation of the Invincible comic.  Kirkman had hundreds of good ideas but Seance Dog was the best and so that's' the one we went with and now you know (if you didn't already) why Science Dog isn't a thing in the smash hit amazon prime animated cartoon series.

Probably should've 'tooned this bad boy up a bit, because within the context of the show, this is almost a photo-realistic drawing.  That's a funny thing to think about.  Like when there's a painting in a show that's rendered more than the "real life" characters are and jeez man how weird would that be to look at a picture of yourself that's more detailed than real life.  Or like when Bobby Hill or someone draws a picture of Peggy Hill or someone else and it looks exactly like they look and it's like dang Bobby Hill or whoever is a really talented artist!

See you next time

You Know What Time It Is

Hey look at this cartoon dad I drew.  You could go see him in action it's pretty cool.

He's Not My Brother

Hey look at these little sketches I made of Marky and a mysterious figure (it's Terra) from Invincible.  Between you and me, I wish I could retain some of that loose quality that you see here in my published work, but I can never seem to fight the urge to overwork the shit out of everything to the point that it becomes stiff and disappointing.

Don't forget that Invincible (a cartoon) premieres this Friday (Mar. 26) on Amazon's Prime Video streaming service.

Thanks for looking at this for a second.  See you.

01000110

Hey look at this drawing I made of Robot from Invincible.  Didn't really turn out like I wanted it to but I'll do better next time.

Did you know that I had originally called the character "Robot Boy?"  That's some cool trivia that you can have for free.

Ok

*shrugs*

Hey look at this drawing I made of The Vision.  This all-white costume is by far my favorite look for the character.  Could be because it's what he was wearing when I started reading comics, or maybe it's because it looks FUUUUUCKKINN SIIIIICK.  I wish this level of restraint was more common in modern superhero costume design.

I dunno.  I'm no expert, I just know what I like.

Anyway.  I had to take a break from work to get this one out of my bones, and now that I've done that, it's back to shattered goggles and hurt feelings.  I hate when siblings fight.

Ok, see you.

Thursday, February 18, 2021

Oh Well

Hey look at these Supergirl design sketches I did.

This was some nonsense I toyed with off and on for a while.  It started out with a vague, nothing notion of a few basic shapes that I wanted to build a costume out of, but ultimately I didn't really know where to take it and didn't have any good ideas.  So I think I'm just gonna let this one go. There are a lot of tendencies I have when designing these types of things that I need to break free of.  Too many go-to shapes and placements.  Probably why this one was a dud for me.

Is this type of thing something you'd like to see more of on this blog?

Honestly I feel silly posting anything when every other person posting art online is sharing incredible work and I'm over here like "look at this thing I gave up on."

I dunno.

See you next time.

One More Time

Hey look at this panel from Invincible #95.  This is the last one of these I'll post, I just like the way the blurry spot of the photo works with the scene in the way that it does?  I don't know words so that's as well as I can articulate it.

It was a really cool opportunity for us to do this story arc the way we did, with me (cory walker) drawing a backstory that was unfolding parallel to current events as drawn by Ryan Ottley.  It was a neat way to have both of us on the book at the same time.  Especially cool for Ottley fans (everyone) am I right.

Anyway, a lot of you are asking me what I'm working on lately and let me tell you, I can't tell you.

Alright, that's enough of this for today.  Goodbye.

Kinda Vincible, TBH

Hey look at this key art for the Invincible show.

Did you know that we're doing an Invincible animated series?  Well now you do!

The above piece was done by myself and the great Peter Rubin (Peter did most of it, I just drew the figures).

Anyway, if you want to, you can start to look at it on the 26th of March 2021 via Amazon's Prime Video service.

More of This Type of Thing

Hey look at this sequid from the cover of Invincible #100.  Another shot I found on my phone from forever ago.  I forget exactly why I took this photo at this time, maybe I had forgotten to record an image of the final pencils before I started inks and only remembered after I had inked this little glob.

Anyway, it's nice to look at stuff like this from time to time.

Ok, see you.

Hey look at this, uh, drawing I did?  What would be a good name for her?  Leave your suggestion in the comments.

Traditionally Handsome

Hey look at these different pictures of the same drawing from a page of Invincible (the comic book).  I stumbled across these bad boys on my phone recently and it really made me miss working traditionally with a pen on a paper.  This story arc, Invincible #s 92-96, was the last time that I used this method on sequential pages (unless I'm quite mistaken) before switching to a digital workflow.

Sometimes I wonder how differently I would draw today had I not made that transition.  My work shifted drastically (I think) when I started inking myself in the early days of Invincible and similarly, working digitally must have put me on a path that has altered my stylistic growth. Always cool and healthy to dwell on the path not taken, am I right?

AND don't misunderstand me, I don't think one is better than the other when it comes to digital vs traditional.  That's not what this is about. I certainly don't think you're more or less of an artist if you use one over the other.  Ultimately, it comes down to what aspects of the process you find value in.  Be cool, make pictures however you want.

Anyway, who cares.

I Would Never

Hey look at this ad for something called "Kickfight."  I don't know who actually drew this or where it really came from, but it's a decent attempt at aping me. Pretty weird!

Anyway, this was the back cover to some bonkers-ass comic called "SolidBlood" that showed up out of nowhere with Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley's names on it, though they don't seem to have actually worked on it. Like I say, pretty weird stuff.

Bye.

Romance Dog

Hey look at this panel from ScienceDog.  There was a new back-up in issue 25 of Oblivion Song last year.  Did you see it?

Another Picture for Internet

Hey look at this drawing I did of Marky from Invincible.

On an unrelated note, it's cool to be drawing comics again.
